The short answer
Copy the world files before hosting ends. You can restore the world on a compatible Minecraft server. Move the world to a server your group manages together, so playing doesn't depend on one friend's card or computer.
Why can we lose our Minecraft world when the host leaves?
You can lose access when one friend runs the server and nobody else has a copy. They might replace their PC or cancel hosting without passing on the world files.
How do I save the world before it's gone?
Ask whoever runs the server for the world folder. It's an ordinary folder you can zip and send.
- A server at home or a rented server: copy the
worldfolder from the server's files. Where the Nether and the End live depends on the server software and version: ifworld_netherandworld_the_endsit next to it, copy all three. - A world opened to LAN: on Java Edition, look in the host's
savesfolder for the folder with your world's name. - Realms: ask the owner to download the world from the Realm's settings before you move servers.
Stop the server before you copy, or the copy can catch the world halfway through a save.
How do we play the saved world again?
- Start a server with the same Minecraft edition, version and server software as the saved world.
- Stop the new server and replace its world folders with your saved copies. Keep the folder names, then restart it.
- Check the spawn and a few builds before anyone plays, then let the crew in.
Going from a newer version back to an older one can break a world, so never downgrade. Back up your vanilla world before trying a newer Minecraft version. For modded worlds, keep the server and players on the same modpack version.
How do we stop it happening again?
- Choose hosting that lets your group manage the server together, so access doesn't depend on one friend.
- Pay through one shared fund so one friend doesn't have to cover the whole server bill.
- Keep a backup in a shared folder your crew can access. Save a fresh copy after big builds.
How does Radclub keep worlds?
Radclub pauses your server if the shared fund can't pay for another month. The server belongs to the club, so a friend leaving doesn't take the world with them. Members chip in to one shared jar. The club's owner or an admin can download a copy of the world.

Questions people ask
- Can I move a world from Realms to our own server?
- Yes. Ask the Realm's owner to download the world, then import it into a compatible Minecraft server.
- Will a world from a newer version work on an older server?
- Avoid older Minecraft versions: downgrading can damage your world. Use the version you last played on.
